At Norland, our school vision is inspired by the story of The Prodigal Son and the message of love in action:

"Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (Corinthians 13:7)

This story helps our children understand how to live out our Christian values—Forgiveness, Friendship, Hope, and Trust—and guides them to be the best they can be, guided by God’s love.

Learning Through the Story

We explore the story through the actions of the characters, helping children connect our values to real-life experiences:

1. The Son Leaves Home → TRUST

   • The father gives his son the freedom to go, trusting that he will learn and grow from his choices.

   • This shows the importance of trusting others and giving them space to make their own decisions.

2. The Son Hits Rock Bottom → HOPE

   • Even at his lowest point, the son holds onto hope that he can return home and be treated with mercy.

   • This teaches children to never give up and to believe in new beginnings.

3. The Father Welcomes Him Back → FORGIVENESS

   • The father shows complete forgiveness—offering love and restoration without blame or punishment.

   • This powerful moment models how forgiveness can heal relationships and build stronger communities.

4. The Older Brother’s Reaction → FRIENDSHIP

   • The father invites the older brother to celebrate and restore his relationship with his sibling.

   • Children learn the importance of friendship, understanding, and unity, even when feelings are complicated.
